Which Silicone Seal Strips Are Suitable for Cable Ditch Sealing & Installation Guide
Cable ditches (also called cable trenches) require durable sealing to block rainwater, dust, sand, insects and rodents. Reliable sealing protects underground power cables from moisture and corrosion and extends the service life of cables.
Which silicone seal strips work best for cable ditch projects?
Solid T-type silicone seal strip is the most widely used option for cable trench cover seams.
• Structure: Solid T cross-section. The vertical stem inserts into the pre-machined groove on the cable ditch cover. The top horizontal flange gets squeezed tightly when the cover is closed to form waterproof and dustproof sealing.
• Material: Industrial grade silicone. It is high & low temperature resistant, anti-aging and UV-resistant, stable for long-term outdoor and underground application.
• Advantages: Embedded installation, hard to fall out; good compression elasticity, stable sealing performance.
Other optional silicone strips for cable ditch:
1. Self-adhesive flat silicone strip: Used when the cable cover has no prefabricated groove. It sticks to flat surfaces, but the fixing strength is weaker than T-type strips.
2. P-shaped silicone seal strip: Suitable for larger or uneven gaps, with great flexibility.
We supply custom solid T-type silicone seal strips in various sizes. MOQ 50 meters. We can produce products according to your drawings or samples.
Tools You Need
• Solid T-type silicone seal strip
• Measuring tape
• Utility knife
• Lint-free clean cloth
• Alcohol / degreaser
• Hand pressure roller
Step-by-step Installation for T-type Silicone Strip on Cable Ditch
Step 1: Measure the groove size
Measure the width and depth of the reserved groove on your cable ditch cover. Choose matched solid T-type silicone strip. If your groove is non-standard, send us your dimensions for custom production.
Step 2: Clean the groove surface
Remove dust, mud and debris inside the groove. Wipe the groove with alcohol and make sure the groove is fully dry. Dirty surface will cause poor fitting and sealing failure.
Step 3: Cut silicone strip to required length
Cut the solid T-type silicone strip with a utility knife. Keep the cutting edge flat. For long continuous seams, cut the joint ends at a 45° angle for tight splicing.
Step 4: Insert T-type strip into groove
Align the vertical stem of solid T silicone strip, push it fully into the groove along the cable ditch cover. Press the strip by hand or roller to ensure it sits completely inside the slot without warping or popping out.
Step 5: Test sealing effect
Close the cable ditch cover. The top flange of the T-type silicone strip will be slightly compressed to form a tight seal. Inspect the whole length, re-press any loose sections.
Important Notes
1. Do not install on wet days or rainy weather. The groove surface must stay dry during installation.
2. Silicone material features outstanding aging resistance, suitable for long-term underground and outdoor working conditions.
3. If your cable ditch gap is irregular, contact us for custom silicone profile solutions.
