How to Choose the Right O-Ring Material and Hardness
Share
O-ring failure often happens when you pick the wrong hardness or rubber material. Wrong O-rings cause fluid leaks, machine downtime and extra repair cost.
For oil and hydraulic sealing projects, NBR is the top choice. We supply NBR O-rings in two hardness grades:
70 Shore A: Soft and flexible. Works well for most static and standard dynamic sealing jobs. It conforms easily to uneven surfaces.
90 Shore A: Harder NBR for high pressure. Resists extrusion under heavy pressure, perfect for hydraulic systems.
Other rubber material options for different working conditions:
• EPDM: Great for water, steam and outdoor UV aging. Not suitable for oil or grease contact. Standard hardness.
• Silicone: Wide temperature range for high heat environments. Supplied in standard hardness.
• FKM : Excellent chemical and heat resistance for harsh demanding applications. Standard hardness.
We supply custom size O-rings to match your equipment groove dimensions.
