Glyd Ring Selection Guide for Hydraulic Cylinder Pistons
Share
When sourcing high-performance piston seals for hydraulic cylinders, purchasing managers and mechanical engineers often refer to Glyd rings. They are widely used bidirectional composite seals for cylinder pistons.
A Glyd ring consists of two parts:
• Filled PTFE sliding ring: The main sealing surface. It has ultra-low friction, resists wear and chemicals, and eliminates stick-slip movement.
• Elastic O-ring energizer (NBR or FKM): It provides constant preload pressure. It compensates for PTFE wear and keeps the PTFE ring tightly pressed against the cylinder bore.
As a double-acting seal, the Glyd ring seals pressure from both sides of the piston. It works well under high pressure hydraulic conditions, ideal for heavy machinery, hydraulic presses and construction equipment cylinders.
Compared with standard rubber seals, Glyd rings run smoother, create less heat and have a longer working life.
We supply standard size Glyd rings. Custom dimensions can be manufactured to match your piston groove specifications.
Note: Glyd rings are designed for piston installation, not for piston rod sealing.
