EPDM vs Silicone Seal Strip: Temperature Resistance & Material Comparison

EPDM and silicone are two popular materials for custom extruded seal strips. Many industrial buyers often ask: What is the maximum temperature of EPDM rubber seal strip? What is the high temperature limit for silicone seal strips?

EPDM rubber seal strip
Continuous working temperature: -40℃ to 120℃. Short time peak temperature can reach 150℃.
EPDM has great UV, ozone and water resistance. It works perfectly outdoors under sun and rain. It is cheaper than silicone. It is widely used for door gaskets, window seals and standard electrical cabinet seals. The downside is it cannot work long-term above 120℃, and it does not resist oil. Custom EPDM rubber seal strips have a 100 meters minimum order quantity.

Silicone rubber seal strip
Continuous working temperature: -60℃ to 200℃. Short time peak temperature up to 250℃.
Silicone can handle much higher heat. It keeps flexible in hot environments. It is commonly used for high temperature electrical enclosures, oven and heat equipment seals. Silicone also has good weather resistance. The main disadvantage is higher cost, and it is not suitable for oily working conditions. Custom silicone seal strips have a 50 meters minimum order quantity.

Quick comparison
EPDM seal strip
Working temp: -40℃ ~120℃, peak 150℃
UV/Ozone: Excellent
Oil resistance: Poor
Cost: Lower
MOQ: 100 meters
Best application: Outdoor doors, regular electrical cabinets, water and steam environment

Silicone seal strip
Working temp: -60℃ ~200℃, peak 250℃
UV/Ozone: Excellent
Oil resistance: Poor
Cost: Higher
MOQ: 50 meters
Best application: High temperature cabinets, ovens, thermal machinery

How to choose
If your working temperature stays below 120℃ and used outdoors with sunlight and rain, choose EPDM seal strip for better price. Remember custom EPDM strips require 100m MOQ.
If your equipment runs continuously over 120℃, pick silicone seal strip for high temperature resistance. Custom silicone seal strips start at 50 meters.

FAQ
Q1: What is the maximum temperature for EPDM rubber seal strip?
A: EPDM seal strip runs continuously up to 120°C, short peak temperature to 150°C. Long time use over 120℃ will speed up aging. Custom EPDM seal strips MOQ 100m.

Q2: Can EPDM replace silicone for high temperature cabinet?
A: No. If cabinet temperature is constantly above 120℃, EPDM will age fast. Silicone is the proper choice.

Q3: What is your MOQ?
A: Custom silicone seal strips 50 meters MOQ, custom EPDM rubber seal strips 100 meters MOQ. Custom cross-sections and sizes are available. Small batch orders are accepted. Send your specs to us.
